Cowdale Hall
The hamlet of Cowdale is a sited within an area of Special Landscape Interest, and the Peak District National Park boundary passes through the middle of the village.
Cowdale Hall has been the home of the Morten family since 1896 when it was purchased by R B Morten from his cousin, to provide milk for the growing family dairy business. Over the years the farm changed, with a herd of pedigree Shorthorn and Freisian cattle, over 1,000 pigs, 200 sheep, and beef cattle.
Twelve years ago the decision was taken to move away from farming into the leisure industry, and a livery stables and caravan site were established. Today the farm boasts a thriving livery business, holiday cottages and caravan site, and is still home to three generations of the Morten family.
